Asia Trip - 12 April

12 April 2025

A very easy morning since we were out so late. We headed to another area that had a nicer market. It was also near the Temple. Because it was noon, we got lunch first, and while eating lunch, the rain started. We were able to buy a couple umbrellas from GS25. We found some nice things for the girls.

One of Will's go to souvenirs is a Zippo. Marty was able to ask someone that pointed us to a great place.

We then went to the temple, where we were able enjoy the beautiful grounds, and speak to a woman who is Korean, but married an American man and lived in Rexburg Idaho. She was amazingly pleasant.

For dinner tonight we decided to go back into the market and try a dish that one specific market is well known for. It is an interested Beef Tartar, I don't recall its name but "Yukhoe" is a steak tartare entreĆ©. "Sannakji" is a raw octopus dish that's so fresh it squirms. This dish puts them together on one plate, and our specific example also included a raw egg and some fresh pear. It's found at Gwangjang Market in Seoul. The instructions include making sure that you chew thoroughly to make sure the still moving octopus tentacles don’t stick to your throat. I found the dish surprisingly good, and I would eat it again. Becky and April both tried a small piece, but were not overly impressed, it was Marty and Will that really put the dish down.

Obviously the girls needed some more dinner, so we went through the market where we tried other interesting foods, including Bungeoppang (Korean Fish Shaped Pastry), and found ourselves some good food to take back to the AirBNB for a late dinner, and an end to the day.
