This years project is actually kind of big, and kind of two big projects.
One part is the back yard, including new sprinklers and grass. We haven't quite started on that one, but we are moving ahead on it.
The second part is our big garden. We usually only have a few plants in our front garden beds. Nothing fancy, but we wanted something bigger. So we made a plan back in January and have been working hard at it ever since.
First step, Seedings. I had never done this before so we took a class and dived head first.
Here is some of the seeds we planted at the class.
One of the guys at the class showed us that we could plant the seeds in empty egg shells. So we saved up our egg shells for a week and had a fun family home evening where we planted more seeds with the girls.
Then we set up shop in the basement with some planter lights.
And things started to grow!
When it warmed up enough outside we started out work out there. We took out a tree.
And took out our shed! It was a lot easier said than done. All the stuff had to be gone through, sorted, donated, destroyed, or found a new place for it. Then one very rainy Saturday we tore it down!
Here is is during.
And after!
Over the course of many more Saturdays, we put down layers or cardboard, mulch, and wood chips.
(and we got an awesome $300 trailer off KSL.)
And then things started to get planted. Here are my tomato plants hiding from the cold in milk jugs.
And the peas are so cute!
Over the next few weeks I can get everything else planted and we will see what survives!
We have big plans for potatoes, sunflowers, peas, broccoli, radishes, cucumbers, a variety of leafy greens, different peppers, tomatoes, okra, and zucchini. we also planted a bunch of different herbs in the little gardens in the front of our house. It will be fun to see what happens!
