Yard Work

This summer we have been working in our back yard a lot. Between the new sprinklers and the new garden, that is pretty much all the home improvement things we have time for!

We have learned many things through the process of trial and error.

The sunflowers did great! But they choked out the potatoes underneath them. Lesson learned.

I finally got a few things to grow in the garden. I have heard from a few people that with the heat that we had this summer that the gardens have had a hard time producing anything. We got a few things. The tomatoes, broccoli, and peppers have started to come, and we got some carrots to grow. The lettuce did great (when the chickens didn't get to them.) We have also learned that waiting too long for things to grow is a bad thing. So our corn never got big, but it did get old and hard. Our cucumbers got too old and bitter. We are going to try and pickle them and see what happens.

We also planted two trees. One in the back, and one in the front. We are excited to see how big they grow in a year.

Naomi is also very excited about the yard. She decided she wanted to learn how to mow the lawn. She did ok for a first attempt, but she excited to try again. It might just be exciting as another way to earn money, but nevertheless, its fun right now!
